The MLHG was founded in 1973, and the original aims of the group were to research, record  and disseminate the history of Stratfield Mortimer. The earliest record we currently have is of the AGM on 2nd June 1976. Some notable early members who did much research on original documents and attended that meeting include Mr B Bristow, Mrs G Bristow, Mrs J Brown, Mr R Brown, Miss J Carter, Miss E Long, Mr T Packwood, Miss K Pusey, Mr C Woodward and Mrs J Woodward.
